| [ | mood |
| | sad | ] | There's been a tragedy here at Uni. A first year commited suicide in the early hours of Tuesday morning and was found yesterday evening.
It's made me really sad seeing some of my good friends who were housemates with him so distraught, crying and feeling really upset. It feels comforting to know that they can hug me for a long time if they need to though, as they were doing today.
Even though myself and loads of other students didn't know him, it's still effected us as everyone is so close here at Chichester. We're a close-knit community rather than a number like you would find in big city Unis.
There's a memorial service in the chapel tomorrow which I'm gonna go to to pay my respects and give my support to my friends. |

| Housemates |
[Mar. 3rd, 2007|03:07 am] |
I love my housemates. The guys upstairs (Vikki, Joel, Emma and Kate) are all so sweet and lovely, and then all the lads downstairs (Tom, Tom, Ryan, Simon, Rich and Graeme and not to mention Matt the Vice-President of the SU who lives next door to me upstairs) are wicked. I just feel like I've never bonded with a group of boys so well before in all my life. Usually I feel really awkward and uncomfortable around lads who are the football-mad, shag-as-many-girls-as-u-can sort because I'm not like that, but with the housemates, it's like, I'm me, and they love the fact that I'm different to them. Also, probably because I'm the youngest and only 18 year old/"awww baby" (as it's been put lol) of the house, whilst they are all 19 or 20.
Tonight was just a cool night down the SU, which resulted coming back to the house getting pretty loud and crazy.
When the majority of the others went to bed, Ryan, Tom and I stayed up until just before 3am and played RING OF FIRE! lol Now this game involves a lot of drinking and getting things right with cards, otherwise you have to keep drinking, and believe me, some of the shit I was drinking was rough! Whilst this was happening, various songs of the Keane and new Take That stuff were playing, and every now and then Tom would pounce on me and Ryan and pretend to do us up the arse (just like your typical 20 year old alpha heterosexual sports student male does). He was also quite drunk that he decided to climb onto my back when I was sitting down and use my body as a pillow. That boy cracks me up!
What can I say? I love Uni. I love everyone.
My housemates rule, couldn't have asked for a better bunch =). I'm gonna miss them when we leave...so bad ='( |

I'm learning Japanese! ^^
My Japanese friend Haruka from Uni is teaching me, even how to write Kanji (the traditional Japanese script)! It's sooo cool!
Hopefully moving into a house with her for Year 2 awell, so we can watch lots of Anime, and I'll probably end up trying some Japanese food - like Sushi and Teriyaki chicken! |

| P!nk & Indigo Girls - 'Dear Mr. President': |
[Dec. 22nd, 2006|11:58 pm] |
La da da...la da da da daa...
Dear Mr. President, come take a walk with me. (Come take a walk with me...) Let's pretend, we're just two people and, you're not better than me. I'd like to, ask you some questions if, we can speak honestly.
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street? Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep? What do you feel when you look in the mirror? Are you proud...?
How do you sleep, while the rest of us cry? How do you dream when, a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me, in the eye...and tell me why?
La da da da...la da da da daa...
Dear Mr. President, were you a lonely boy? (Were you a lonely boy...?) Are you a lonely boy? (Are you a lonely boy...?) How can you say, no child is left behind? We're not dumb and we're not blind! They're all sitting in your cells, while you pave the road to hell!
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay? I can only imagine what the first lady has to say - you've come a long way...from whiskey and cocaine!
How do you sleep, while the rest of us cry? How do you dream when, a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me, in the eye...?
Let me tell you bout hard work; minimum wage with a baby on the way! Let me tell you bout hard work; rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away! Let me tell you bout hard work; building a bed out of a cardboard box! Let me tell you bout hard work, hard work, hard work! You don't know nothing bout hard work, hard work, hard work...Oh...
How do you sleep, at night...? How do you walk, with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President, you'd never take a walk with me...would you...? |

| | Gala - 'Freed From Desire' | ] | Well it's been a fantastic first semester at Uni. It's been gradual, but at the same time, it's flown by! I can't believe it'll be Semester 2 soon; speaking of which, I need to prepare for that by getting quite a few books for English. We're studying Modernism to the Present, basically 20th century stuff, including War poetry and some great science fiction novels such as '1984'. I haven't studied that book since year 8! Can't wait to read it again, it was brilliant.
Came home Friday after a hectic final week of working on assignments for deadlines. Been staying up real late working on essays; it's ranged from 2am-5am lol. But I guess that's what Uni is all about! Or so I've been told by others anyway.
Last week was awesome. Gem came up to stay for the weekend and we had such fun! Saturday she came up, I met her from the station, brought her back to the Uni, showed her around campus/my house/room, then we went up town when it was dark and all the Christmas lghts/tree were lit up. Then came back, watched the 'X-Factor' lol, ordered a pizza and then after that got ready to go out clubbing at Thursdays till 2.30am! Had an awesome time! It was Club Classics, and believe me they played some classics. I also have a vid of us dancing and singing to 'Show Me Love' on my mob and we even had some random woman dancing with us all night lol. Ahh good times!
Thursday night I was involved in a Carol concert at the Cathedral, due to the fact that I'm a member of the First Year and Chamber Choir choirs at Uni. It was really nice, the first years were given a candle to walk with whilst the lights were dimmed. It was really sacred, especially with a plain chant echoing.
Finally got all my Christmas shopping sorted! It's amazing how much I've spent on people this year, considering I've been at Uni. You would've thought I'd have less to spend. Saving money really does help.
Looking forward to seeing and meeting up with people again this holiday. No doubt I will be going to Shigi's again. Actually, I DEFINITELY will be going to Shigi's again lol. I've missed it!
See you all soon I hope. If for some reason I don't however, have a great Christmas and New Year! =)

| "I can't wait, for the weekend to begin!" |
[Dec. 8th, 2006|07:19 pm] |
Well, it is the Snow Ball tonight here at the Uni, and I must say I'm looking forward to getting dressed up all smart with my new shirt (it's stripy minty green and brown - how festive!), and especially looking forward to STRAIGHTENING MY HAIR! I haven't done this in months! I think the last time was back in September for my Nan's 70th meal, so I've been wanting to for quite a while. So tonight should be good fun, considering the Union also has a snow machine apparently! Ahh that's gonna be madness! lol
Tomorrow morning is technically our "Christmas Day" here at Uni (cause it's the last weekend before we go home), so we are all gonna give each other our Secret Santa presents. Looking forward to seeing what I have got...lol.
Also, cannot wait until Gem comes down tomorrow till Monday. It's been too long since I last saw her, and tomorrow we're going clubbing from 10.30pm till 3am at Thursdays (the local (student) club), AND it's dance classics night! So, that means partying hard.
WOO! Bring on the good times!
Have a great weekend y'all!

Has anyone seen the Mastercard advert, where it has all the prices for coming from different countries into the UK, as everyone arriving at the airport is hugging their family/friends and laughing/crying? And then at the end it says:
"Spending Christmas together: priceless"
I love that advert. It has a really lovely soft acoustic song in the background too. It reminds me of 'Love Actually' for some reason.
Ahh must watch that film soon... |

Life has been a bit of a rollercoaster these past few weeks. I've been going through many different emotions, ups and downs, homesick/lonely/happy/sad/you name it etc. But I'm assuming that's natural, right...?
Although, I have had some happy days (The irony *Teehee!*) by joining the Gospel Choir, so that's lifted the spirit at least. And tomorrow, I've got an audition for the Chamber Choir too, so that should be interesting...
But all I can say is I'm really looking forward to coming home on Saturday for "Reading Week" (AKA Half Term), as I get to stay a whole week! Yay!!! Looking forward to seeing certain people, they know who they are =)
Now, just need to get this 1,250 word English Assignment on 'Dover Beach' done for Friday and then that's out of the way ^^
Bring on Saturday!

First official update from Uni after the brilliant technician lady got the internet connection on the laptop working for me (It was being a stubborn little bugger)! Sorry if I haven't been on MSN guys, but now you know the reason why. It feels weird sitting here in my room on campus, typing on my laptop as opposed to the PC back home...
Just out of interest, who is still going to use/update lj at Uni?
Anyway, SOOO much has been going on these past two weeks! I can't tell you how busy I've been! It all started back on the 16th, the day I moved in, and man, I was nervous...BUT, that all soon changed! I managed to make friends almost immediately, especially with my housemates (That feels odd saying that as I feel like I'm on 'Big Brother' lol), and the huge Freshers party at the Student Union on the first night gave me a chance to relax, have a drink and dance all night long; a great way to begin Uni life, I'm sure you'd agree! Believe me, everything is just MADNESS!!!
The lectures so far have been really cool; Performing Arts seems interesting and different, English has been great as we are studying some poems I've already studied at A-Level and various novels for the Victorian Literature module, including 'Jane Eyre'! Such a fantastic story! And the Creative Writing just feels amazing. I really can't wait to start writing properly - poems especially. The tutors are fab too; one of my Performing Arts tutors has actually worked in Ruislip (and around Hillingdon), and my English/Creative Writing tutor even said that I have the coolest name in the year. I was pretty shocked, yet chuffed at the same time lol!
The older students especially are incredibly friendly and really make me feel welcome. I end up having a load of random 2nd and 3rd years coming upto me complementing me, asking questions and generally saying kind things. It's a lovely atmosphere to be around; it really makes you feel treasured as the person you are.
I've also put the majority of pictures of family and friends/posters up in my room too, so the place is feeling more homely as the days go by =)
Missing certain people right now, but I'm hoping that there will be a chance for me to see everyone again soon.
Until then, I send much love and huggles to all!
Bilbo Baggins (AKA Billy Holley - "The coolest name in the year!") xxx
Also, good luck to all you guys moving into Uni this weekend! You'll be fine! |
